Loop lighting

Used to show a sense of drama to the portrait. Used for a male face. Cuts the nose in half. Directly at side and light up half the face.
Butterfly lighting
Used on Womans, casts a shadow under the nose, chin, and cheekbones. Light is above the subject in the front.
Rim/Profile
The rim of a object is lit up. Highlights rim of subject. Enhances texture. Stand in front of the subject. Get light to bounce off front of face.
